Even wearing an AirTag, there is no guarantee that the pet will be found which is where the reluctance to declare AirTags a "pet finder" comes in. A combination of methods to locate your per provides the best protection.
AirTags bring the advantage of locating your pet quickly and precisely with the map feature. The technology works based on iPhones being near the pet to capture the signal. If your pet is in a remote area there may not be a signal until reaching a more populated area. There are approximately 135 million iPhone users in the U.S. so the chances are high of receiving a signal. Notifications can be setup to let you know as soon as a signal is received.
Microchips are a great idea and should still be used. They are implanted and can't be lost compared to a dog's collar that can come off. To use the microchip, it requires the lost pet be caught and taken for scanning which delays identification, however. Microchips also require the owner to maintain current contact information so they can reach you when needed.
An AirTag is a good tool for finding a missing pet quickly but should not be the only approach. No single approach can guarantee success, so use several to locate your pet as quickly as possible and set yourself up for the greatest chance of success!
AirTags are not included with the collar.
Find your dog faster with the AirTag device. Even with a Microchip implant there are challenges:
Your dog must be willing to go with a stranger or may be caught by animal control.
If found at night, your dog may not be scanned until morning requiring an overnight stay.
Owners must maintain current contact information for the lifetime of the pet which can be forgotten during a move, or through multiple moves over time.
The AirTag puts the power of finding your dog directly in your hands so you can find your dog and bring your furry family member home right away.
Avoid your pet going to a shelter by finding him before that happens. Locate your dog before being taken to a shelter.
Many shelters are at or over capacity and lost dogs add to that strain.
Your dog may be placed for adoption if not claimed within a few days and no one wants that to happen.
“I wish I had this collar when I was dog sitting at a client’s house and suddenly couldn’t find the dog. I searched the neighborhood, posted on Facebook and worried all day before I found her sleeping quietly inside the pantry. It would have saved me hours of worry and searching.”

"Our corgi, Max, got out of the backyard without us noticing. By the time we realized he had already sniffed his way down the street and wouldn't come when called (yes, that was very frustrating). We couldn't catch him by foot and by the time we had the car he was nowhere to be found. We realized we hadn't updated the information with the microchip company after moving so had to find their information and contact them. Max was taken to the shelter that night, but he wasn't scanned until the next morning, so we didn't know where he was; we worried all night. Having the collar with the AirTag has given us much more confidence in finding him fast next time."
